As a CoolKit customer, you probably have heard us talk about Type Approval, stating that our conversions are “Type Approved”. But what does it mean for you?
EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ECWVTA) is a system allowing a vehicle design to be ‘type approved’ for sale, registration and entry into service across all members states in the EU without the need for further testing in each country.
When a vehicle is delivered to us, it arrives fully type-approved from the vehicle manufacturer. This means, it has been given the green light for safety whilst in use. As we convert the vehicle, we make modifications by adding the refrigerated conversion. Because of this, the vehicle needs to be audited again to make sure the safety badge is still valid.
Investment in R&D and advanced technologies, has allowed us to design and manufacture refrigerated conversions which can be fitted with minimal disruption to the existing structure, creating the least intrusive way to convert a temperature-controlled van.
This innovative thinking has led to an envious list of vehicles we can proudly stamp as Type Approved, including:
When going through an ECWVTA audit, regulators attend our manufacturing site to physically see the product being produced and fitted to the vehicle. This is a vigorous process, involving detailed explanations as to why we design, manufacture and install parts of the conversion in a set way, going back to the motto of ‘creating the least intrusive way to convert’. Auditors need to be 100% convinced that when our refrigerated vehicles are on the road, they are safe to use and not a risk to drivers, passengers and public.
And this is not just on a one-off vehicle: the auditors want to see proof that we are capable to produce a safe refrigerated conversion every time, no matter the specification.
At CoolKit we like to be transparent on what we do and how we do it. Investing time and resources into gaining these Type Approval status allows us to provide our customers with peace of mind on the quality and safety of the vehicles. Our customers can place their trust with us, knowing that every vehicle we place on the road has had our full attention and, most importantly, is safe to be on the road.
