We were extremely honoured to be part of the Commercial Fleet Awards which took place Thursday 29th November at the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham.
The ceremony saw the very best achievers in the commercial fleet industry come together for a night of networking and celebration.
CoolKit were one of five finalists up for the title of Converter of the Year. This award category was designed to identify a converter who is meeting, and exceeding, the needs and expectations of its fleet customers. Entries needed to display innovative solutions to problems, a willingness to create bespoke solutions and examples of outstanding customer service.
We thought we would highlight reasons why we made it to the final 5 on the night, and what we have managed to achieve this past year through innovation and advanced technologies.
2018 saw the introduction of our award-winning insulated box body solution, developed using unique construction techniques with ultra-light and strong materials. The need to improve productivity as vehicle emissions regulations tighten was the principle drive in the development of this product; we listened to our customer’s needs and in response we designed a solution that offers durability, quality, strength and flexibility way above current industry standards. Our aim wasn’t just to produce another box body product, but to produce one that would shake up the market. Key to that was identifying innovative new materials in a way that no-one else had.
The hard work and determination resulted in an extra 150Kg of load space per vehicle over a fleet of 10 box bodies for a leading nationwide food ingredients specialist. Over the fleet of 10 vehicles, that’s one and a half tonnes more that can be carried – in effect, we’ve given the customer an extra vehicle in terms of space. The additional payload has helped the customer to reduce outlay, cut down CO2 emissions and carbon footprint.
2018 also saw us tackling the payload issue on Euro 6 vehicles. The introduction of Euro 6 emission standards resulted in heavier unladen chassis which would of course affect the payload after conversion. A customer in the food sector challenged us to deliver a better payload than their existing fleet. We managed to deliver a payload increase of 100Kg per vehicle, allowing the customer to carry 10% more load in their vans, saving on overheads, vehicle running costs and driver costs.
How we achieved the payload on Euro 6 refrigerated vans:
– Fitted CurtAir instead of PVC strip curtains – lighter and more effective barrier solution
– Sourced alternative material for the protective skirting inside the load space
– Sourced alternative high-impact GRP interior surface for the side and ceiling of the load space – lighter but stronger
– Sourced alternative flooring solution – lighter than traditional fibreglass and resin gelcoat finish
– Sourced a different load restraint system, currently being used in the aircraft industry
– No modifications were made to the base of the vehicle
Finally, our quality control processes have played a big part in 2018, having achieved an 100% pass rate on the latest ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 accreditations. The combined audit evaluates our compliance with quality management systems and environmental management standards. It was noted by the auditor that our quality management system had been comprehensively reviewed and updated to ensure that the requirements of the latest ISO standard had been addressed. Operational control measures have been established for all processes undertaken and implementation was found to be good in all areas visited, with high priority given to quality consistency, waste segmentation and minimisation, pollution prevention, reduction in resource use and continual improvement. The auditor also highlighted our commitment to meeting customer’s needs and expectations by ensuring that we keep abreast of market developments and new products by being proactive with R&D.
As a multi award-winning refrigerated vehicle converter, we will continue to strive for improvements within our product offerings, with our customer’s requirements and feedback at the forefront of our developments, and we will continue to keep our customers and the industry at large up to date on our innovative solutions and product launches.
