The UK Government has committed to meeting net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 – this will ensure the UK ends its contribution to climate change. To meet this demand, every vehicle will need to be zero-emission at the tailpipe by this deadline. It’s without a doubt that this climate control initiative will impact businesses across the UK and preparations need to be made now.

Government Grants for Electric Vans

It’s normal to question the funding available. After all, changing the vans in your fleet or business is a big commitment and change to make. But the good news is, there are UK Government grants and funding available for electric and low emission vehicles.

The UK Government wants to help businesses and customers switch to electric vans with ease, whilst also reducing the up-front costs. The following grants will be given to vehicle dealerships and manufacturers.

The size of the grant you can benefit from will depend on the category your van falls into. At the moment, there are seven categories in total that can benefit from Government funding. These are:

Small Van Grants

The grant will cover 35 percent of the entire purchase price, up to £3,000.

To qualify for a grant on a low-emission small van, they must have a gross vehicle weight of less than 2,500kg, release CO2 emissions less than 50g/km and should be able to travel at least 96km (60 miles) without any emissions at all.

Large Van Grants

The grant pays for 35 percent of the entire purchase price, up to £6,000.

To qualify for this low-emission grant on larger vans they must have a gross vehicle weight of between 2,500kg and 3,500kg. They’ll need to be able to travel at least 96km (60 miles) without any emissions at all. Not forgetting, they should only be emitting CO2 emissions of less than 50g/km.

But what vehicles are eligible for the grant? Does it cover all vehicle makes? Not necessarily, we’ve listed all of the vehicles that are eligible for government grants below.

There can be so much confusion about where to go for government funding. However, we’re going to remove that confusion and link all of the information you need to apply for the appropriate grants.

The UK Government grant service can be used for creating new orders for a plug-in vehicle grant and to update and check existing orders. Of course, if you’re new to this – you’ll need to create a new account first.

For a new order, you’ll need your dealership reference number. To check or search an existing order, you’ll need your plug-in grant application number, your in-house reference number or the customer’s name or vehicle registration number.

But before applying for any grants, you need to ensure you’ve thoroughly read the previous information covered and checked out the UK Government user guidance portal for additional insights.
